Fast Five with Dr. Brendan Kelley
Eastern Radiologists is proud to welcome Brendan Kelley, MD, MSc, a neuroradiologist, who joined our practice in July 2020. Dr. Kelley attended medical school at New York Medical College, completed his diagnostic radiology residency at Henry Ford Hospital, and completed his Neuroradiology fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital. We are glad to have you on board, Dr. Kelley!
How are you and your family liking North Carolina? Have you transitioned well to Greenville?
My wife Julie and I have spent the last ten years living in big cities during my medical training but always knew we wanted to move out of the city to raise our son Quinn and daughter Ruby. We were open to moving somewhere new to begin this next chapter of our lives, and Greenville felt like the perfect place to raise our family. North Carolina is a beautiful state with lots of fun outdoor activities that fit our active lifestyle. My parents have also moved to Greenville to be with us and are enjoying all the extra time with their grandkids.
What led you to choose Neuroradiology?
I have always been fascinated with the brain, but it wasn’t until I stared learning about brain imaging that I realized I would want to be a neuroradiologist. It is an exciting time to work in this field as our understanding of the brain continues to improve with advances in scientific research and MRI technology.
How would you describe your community outreach and initiatives in Kenya and Haiti? Tell us a little about your experiences there.
I went on a medical trip to Kenya after college to deliver donated medical supplies to a rural village and also had the opportunity during my residency to partner with other radiologists throughout the United States to help interpret CT scans for the University Hospital of Haiti. Both of these experiences had a significant impact on me early in my medical career, and I look forward to my next opportunity to do foreign medical service.
Why Eastern Radiologists?
I had interviewed all over the country and quickly realized that working at Eastern Radiologists would be a unique opportunity to practice neuroradiology within a large hospital system outside of a big city. We are fortunate to have cutting edge CT and MRI scanners for our patients throughout eastern North Carolina and a team of expert neuroradiologists to make sure patients have access to the highest level of diagnostic medical imaging of the brain and spine. I also really enjoy seeing patients in the office for spine pain procedures. Eastern Radiologist has a great team of doctors, physician assistants, nurses, technologists, and support staff. It’s a great place to work.
You have a day off with some free time…what will you be doing?
We bought an older home and have spent some of our free time doing home renovation projects. Our kids are at a fun age and love to be outside riding bikes, playing games, or swimming. North Carolina has so many nice day trips so we plan to spend some of our time off exploring our new state. One of our favorite parts so far has been the easy access to being on the water. Some of our best weekends have been spent on the Crystal Coast, Lake Gaston, or the Pamlico River. We absolutely love the weather here.
