Pioneer. Leader. Healer.
A look into the life and contribution of Dr. Allen Taylor.
Blazing the Trail
Upon moving to Greenville in 1954, Dr. Allen Taylor was the first board certified radiologist in
eastern North Carolina. He served surrounding hospitals from Kinston and Wilson to Plymouth
and Williamston, beginning the tradition of regional services that is still carried on by Eastern
Radiologists today.
Fearless Founder
A native of Elizabeth City, NC, Dr. Taylor attended Duke University Medical School, earning his degree in general radiology and completing requisite training in radiation therapy and diagnostic radiology – known today as oncology. After continuing his education through a list of internships, fellowships and residency programs, he founded Eastern Radiologists and began his 40-year medical career. Dr. Taylor and his small practice opened the door for the Greenville area to become the regional frontrunner that it is today.
